“Knight Olmedo” November Theater Company. Lope de Vega Theatre, Seville
November Theater Company presents "El caballero de Olmedo", one of the great works of Lope de Vega.
November Theater Company premiered in autumn last 2017 a show which returns to its original roots, staging one of the great works of the repertoire of the Spanish Golden Age: “Knight Olmedo” Lope de Vega.
El Caballero de Olmedo is one of the most lyrical works of Lope, and one of the most mettle maintaining the tragic breath, so rare in the Madrid playwright. However it is a tragicomedy, since although it handles recognizable tragic elements as the force of the destination or the destination tragic hero, also it retains elements belonging to the New Comedy. It is usually placed writing around 1620 but his impression is after the death of Phoenix of Wits. It remains virtually unknown to the public until Menendez Pelayo edits the late nineteenth. His return to the stage permanently occurs in the twentieth century, is today one of the most prized pieces of Spanish baroque repertoire. Sources for writing -widely studied by Francisco Rico- should be the cantarcillo and dancing, known to an audience that went to the theater knowing the outcome and yet eager to hear the story again in the mouths of comedians.
