Day of the Thirds in Olivares (Seville). IV Edition, 28 January 2023
The 28 January 2023, the “Third of Olive Groves”, Historical Recreation Association of the 16th and 17th century, will make an exit through the streets of the Sevillian Villa de Olivares on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of the Thirds.
This Association has been developing this activity for the fourth consecutive year; a delegation made up of more than fifty people, among “military” personnel (rodeleros, boobies, standard bearers, field master, captain, sergeant …), in addition to "civilians" dressed in clothing and uses of the time, will recreate through the historic center of the town joining the international initiative of the Association “31 January Thirds” to establish the date of 31 January as "Day of the Thirds", date on which the Battle of Gembloux took place in 1578 during the "Eighty Years' War" in which the troops of the Spanish Crown faced and defeated the rebels of the General States of the Netherlands.
In this IV Edition it coincides with a historical event such as the 400 anniversary of the Pontifical erection of the Insigne Collegiate of the Collegiate Church of Olivares, which celebrates the Jubilee Holy Year granted by the Holy See. The Third of Olive Groves, like the old Tercios defenders of the Catholic Faith, include in this edition the pilgrimage to the Collegiate Church with the purpose of crossing the Holy Door, thus achieving the Plenary Indulgence.
Once inside, They will carry out a small act of gratitude with a floral offering to the owner and patron saint of the town, the Virgin of the Snows, while a chorus of singing voices from the Golden Age will sound for the first time under the sacred columns of the Temple.
