photographic exhibition is presented in Sevilla "Generations", a single sample that has been able to capture images in lives separated by more than a century away.
This project brings together a selection of photographs that American Charles Ragsdale carried along 2016 and today brings to an increasingly large group in Spain. The protagonists are 26 Spaniards who have served more than 105 years old, each portrayed with his youngest offspring. These people are living history and have much to bequeath to future generations.
The opening of the exhibition, which will take place on Thursday 16 March, starting at 20:00 hours, Digital Chlorophyll in the room (Virgen de Regla, 12) Seville, is next to a comprehensive book that serves as the catalog presents the exhibition.
The texts of the same, work of the historian and archaeologist Francisco Javier Rodriguez extremeño Viñuelas, collect biographical data on each of the centenarians and Supercentenarians protagonists portraits. The prologue has been made by the former Ombudsman of Andalusia, José Chamizo and journalist Javier Caraballo, El Confidencial and Onda Cero, both will be present at the event. In the presentation of the project will involve José Chamizo, historian Fco. Javier Rodriguez Viñuelas, author of the book and the author of the photographs, American Charles Ragsdale.
Fortunately, centenarian population in Spain has experienced a large increase since the early 1980. In 2015, the number of people who had 100 or more years was close to reaching the 15.000 individuals.
In 2017, almost 17.500 people have overcome the hundred. "Generations" delves into the inside story of this country through a sample 26 personal stories collected in 12 of the 17 Autonomous communities. Thanks to the testimony of life of the protagonists of the project we can approach not only their personal experiences, but also the historical and cultural changes that have operated together to lead the Spanish society to the XXI century.
The factors that come together to determine human longevity are heterogeneous. Today we find that in Spain coexist with globalization the traditional structures of family organization, characterized by having unshakeable bonds of solidarity.
This happens in a changing world, with their old values subject to very strong changes. This situation allows the progressive aging of the population reaches very high levels. Philosophy of life, communion with the environment, moderate exercise and food quality act on good genetics, getting these men and women are still today witnesses of history.
The exhibition will continue its journey through the Spanish geography, subsequently saturating in Extremadura, to continue in Villena (Alicante) during the month of May and then passed through other parts of Europe and some US theaters.
This American photographer, based in Sevilla, places his goal against an indispensable generational bridge to understanding the recent history of Spain. "Generations" It takes the viewer even further portrait, aims to close the vital circle, It allows the sitter to travel through the mirror, two familiar eyes are crossed, two visions of the world separated by 100 years old.
