Synopsis

in Alfama, John, blacksmith by profession, Toino, el fadista, y Ana, the prostitute, bairrista star in a drama where fado is synonymous with tragic fate and marginal condition. We are witnessing the immorality of the protagonist, that is lost loves the prostitute and, after a violent confrontation with a marginal fadista and ruffian, his rival in the love of it, leaving women and children to live with her. João's father turns to Ana to avoid destruición of a family and she, according to the best moral principles, She asks him to return home to his family.

In the end in a collaboration with Toino, in a scene that takes painful his tragic fate of fado, both - prostitute and marginal guitar player - starring the famous image of the painting O Fado José Malhoa.
