The first fair took place 18 April in 1847 in the Prado de San Sebastián. And watch out! The idea was from councilors Narciso Bonaplata and José María Ybarra, a Catalan and a Basque.

With not a few difficulties and some boycott attempts by neighboring fairs, the April Fair premiered. The stellar events were their own nature: an exhibition of large cattle, in which the ranchers competed for the prize to the ox that surpassed with greater abundance the thousand pounds of weight, the award for the best batch of ten merino wool rams or the fastest horse measured in the race.
