While many cities are vying for this title, It is said that the origin of the tapas dates back to the 16th century when King Alfonso XIII being there ordered a sherry on a very windy day. In order to prevent dirt from entering your glass, the waiter improvised a 'tapa' with a slice of ham. This idea amused the monarch who did not hesitate to ask for another sherry 'with a lid'. This is how he created this characteristic way of eating so Spanish. And, speaking of food... don't miss the most typical dishes of Seville and the restaurants where you can try them.
