Soil: a walk through life – Sevilla House of Science
What is the ground beneath our feet? Is it just inert matter that is under our feet or more? Although we are in daily contact with the ground, we do not know enough. It is as unknown as essential, because the soil is the mainstay of the planet. It is an extremely rich and full life ecosystem, continuously moving. Casa Museo de la Ciencia de Sevilla hosts this temporary exhibition, designed by the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, institution also belonging to the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), It is precisely where society seeks to bring this unknown underground paradise and raise awareness about the importance of preserving life on the planet.
The exhibition is divided into four areas. In the first, that explains what the soil, It is still the original soil samples shaped monolith. The second section analyzes the many functions that the soil exerts within ecosystems. In the third area coordinated work of many agencies addressed, from microscopic bacteria to moles or rodents, that enable the functioning and balance of soil ecosystems. Last, sample opens a space for reflection on the threats that caused humans transforming soil faster and more extensively than in any other period of history.
